Local family hurt in B.C. road crash

An Innisfail family narrowly escaped catastrophic injuries during a recent two-vehicle crash in Sicamous, B.C. Shortly before 3 p.m.

An Innisfail family narrowly escaped catastrophic injuries during a recent two-vehicle crash in Sicamous, B.C.

Shortly before 3 p.m. on April 10 the local unnamed family, consisting of two adults and three children, was in a motor vehicle when it was struck by another vehicle driven by a Sicamous resident near the intersection of Main Street and Hwy. 97A.

Sicamous RCMP Sgt. Carl Vinet said the collision caused the vehicle from Innisfail to flip on its side. One of the occupants, an eight-year-old girl, received serious but non-life threatening injuries to her upper arms. The rest of the family, as well as the driver of the Sicamous vehicle, sustained only minor injuries.

An emergency services vehicle was called in to airlift the injured child but was not used. The young girl was instead transported by ground ambulance to a hospital in nearby Salmon Arm.

Vinet said the injured Innisfail girl was properly secured in a booster chair at the time of the crash.

The child was treated and released from hospital and the family returned to Innisfail.

“After talking to her parents she was okay and will have a full recovery,” said Vinet.

The driver of the Sicamous vehicle was charged under B.C.’s Motor Vehicle Act with failing to yield at an intersection.
