The legion is set to roll with a new set of wheels. Thursday, Doug and Joyce Whorrall donated a new 14-seat van to the Branch 104, decked out with images of the CF-104 Starfighter on the side of the blue 2011 Ford.

The two, with combined membership of 90 years, wanted to extend their legacy to the legion by purchasing and donating the van, explained Doug.

“We saved for this over the last two years,” explained Doug. “We wanted to give something back that the legion can use, and also the community, he said, adding the van is also used for various community groups looking for transportation to events outside of Innisfail.

“This will be a great help when we go to other places for meetings or for example, the Portraits of Honour, we’ll all go up for that,” said Sam Esopenko, first vice-president for the Innisfail Legion.

The older van that had previously been lent to the Penhold Air Cadets is now handed over to them officially.

“Joyce and I set up a lifetime bursary for the cadets for a total of $3,000 every year,” he explained. “In lieu of the scholarships this year, I purchased the van from the legion and gave it to them.”
