INNISFAIL – COVID has become the holiday season’s nasty Grinch.

The pandemic has forced the Innisfail RCMP to postpone the planned Dec. 12 25th annual Charity Check Stop. The event has helped countless struggling vulnerable citizens have a better holiday season.

However, the Mounties have not given up all hope. Innisfail RCMP are hopeful that Mounties will still be able to host the Main Street event in the new year if COVID restrictions have been relaxed.

In a news release issued today (Nov. 26), Innisfail RCMP Const. Craig Nelson said no items are being collected at the Innisfail detachment but the Town of Innisfail is open Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to collect new toys and clothing for the Christmas Bureau.

Nelson said the town will also collect cash donations for both the Innisfail and District Food Bank and the Christmas Bureau. They will not be collecting food at this time.

“In this season of giving and celebrating let us continue to provide as much help as we can to those less fortunate,” said Nelson in the news release. “If you are able, please consider making a donation to help make this Christmas season a great one for everyone.”

If any citizen has questions about this year’s Charity Check Stop, he or she can contact the Innisfail RCMP or Const. Craig Nelson at 403- 227-3342.
