INNISFAIL – Town council has approved the distribution of $134,000 of Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) grant funding for 2021.

At council’s regular meeting on Dec. 14, Karen Bradbury, the town's community and social development coordinator, presented a report that outlined the funding distributions recommended by the local FCSS advisory board during its meeting on Nov. 25.

Council unanimously approved the funding requests without discussion.

Council was told the municipality will receive a total of $207,592 from the provincial government in FCSS funding for 2021.

"The $207,592 is the projected amount we are getting from the province and we usually get that in the new year, and $134,000 is designated for external funding,” said Bradbury. “The rest is for administration. Some of that is for staffing.”

Bradbury told council that six requests were reviewed by the board, with the designated $134,000 recommended to council to fund all of them.

The Chinook's Edge School Division requested $105,800 for school programming. The board recommended $60,000.

Council was told the Innisfail Senior’s Drop-in Society requested $40,000, and $22,500 was recommended.

The Innisfail Public Library requested $6,500, which the board accepted. Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools requested $15,000, which the board also approved for council's consideration.

Innisfail and District Victim Services requested $18,000. The board recommended $10,000 for council’s approval.

And finally, the board accepted a request for a FCSS Reserve of $20,000, monies that will be used for any additional local requests for support in 2021.
