PENHOLD – A former Innisfail man is facing several burglary-related charges after police responded yesterday to a suspicious activity report at a Penhold residence and discovered a male suspect hiding in a garage.

Shortly after 9:40 a.m. on June 17, Innisfail RCMP received a report from a concerned citizen who had witnessed a suspicious person entering a garage at a Penhold residence, said Innisfail RCMP Cpl. Michael Heysa.

He said RCMP attended the scene and observed that a door had been pried open to allow access into the garage. Heysa said police officers also noted the rear door of the residence had been damaged. The residence had been entered, said Heysa.

The scene was contained and members from the Innisfail RCMP located a male suspect hiding in the garage in an attempt to avoid capture, he said.

Heysa added that property believed to have been in the possession of the suspect contained items linked to other break and enters reported in the Red Deer and Innisfail areas.

As a result of the investigation, Casey Ronald Laprise, a 32-year-old male formerly of Innisfail, has been charged with:

• breaking and entering with intent to a residence

• failing to comply with release order

• possession of break-in instruments

• five counts of possession of property obtained by crime

• three counts of possession of a forged document

• five counts of illegal possession of a government document

Heysa said Laprise was held for a bail hearing and later released. Laprise is scheduled to attend Red Deer provincial court on July 27.
