Family Day weekend in Innisfail packed with fun activities

Main action is centred around the Innisfail Twin Arena but swimming and bowling is also being offered

INNISFAIL – The fun for families on Family Day weekend begins today with free bowling.

The Family Day Bowling event, sponsored by the town’s Age-Friendly Community Committee, is at Innisfail Bowling Lanes on Sunday, Feb. 19.

The event offers time slots in one-hour increments between 12 to 6 p.m., with one hour between 2 and 3 p.m. reserved for bowlers 50-years-old and over.

Registration is required by calling Innisfail Bowling Lanes at 403-227-5342.

On Family Day (Feb. 20) there is plenty of activities being offered in and around the Innisfail Twin Arena.

From noon until 3 p.m. citizens are invited to join the Family Day fun with the Innisfail Kinsmen.

The service club is providing hot chocolate, coffee and hot dogs. A warm-up station and wagon rides will be on-site.

The event also includes an all-ages free skate at the Arena from noon until 3 p.m.

Organizers are reminding citizens they can also skate for free outdoors at the new boarded rink located on the northwest side of the arena.

Beginning at 10 a.m. there is a 3-on-3 hockey fundraising tournament in support of the Dean Turnquist Helping Hand Fund. Teams are required to register with the tournament organizers to take part.

Next door at the Innisfail Curling Club there is free family curling from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

All equipment is being provided, and no registration is required. However, the number of participants will be limited based on capacity.
For those who want to check out a different activity there is also a Family Day Swim at the Innisfail Aquatic Centre.

There is no direct fee but a donation is requested for the Innisfail and District Food Bank.

Two sessions are available for families to participate: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and then from 3 to 4 p.m.

Monetary and food donations for the food bank will be collected at the pool.
