Record management and FOIP bylaw approved

Council passed a bylaw that will allow for a records management and freedom of information and protection of privacy policy.

The town didn't have a record management bylaw in place and its record retention and disposition policy is very outdated, a report to council explains. There was a freedom of information and protection of privacy policy (FOIP) which will now be included in the new bylaw. Any FOIP information requested from the town which isn't required to be withheld will be made available for viewing at the town office during regular business hours. A fee may be required.

The bylaw will also show how long the town has to hold on to specific records before they can be destroyed.

Sewer relining approved for 2012

Council approved spending $219,000 for sewer relining in town. The project is ongoing and is intended to fix the ground water infiltration problem by eliminating ground water from seeping into the sanitary sewer and reduce fees that the town will have to pay the Regional Sewer Commission, council learned June 25. This is a multi-year project with 2,000 metres being completed this year.

Mayor Jim Romane said it's “imperative to alleviate” because once the town is on the regional line it will pay for every “gallon that goes in there.”

Employee recognition policy approved

Council approved an employee recognition policy that outlines the value of contribution for gifts given to staff at important milestones such as retirements and anniversaries. Employees both full and part time will receive these service awards each five years of service with the town and will receive one if they retire or resign voluntarily after at least five years of work. The value of the award varies depending on the occasion and length of time they have worked for the Town of Innisfail.
