Innisfail mayor Jim Romane joined hundreds of local residents for the Innisfail Hospital Auxiliary's annual Beef On a Bun fundraiser on Nov. 1.

INNISFAIL – Citizens came out in droves to enjoy a good lunch and help support a good cause.

The Innisfail Hospital Auxiliary’s Beef On a Bun event took place at the Royal Canadian Legion on Nov.1.

“It’s been excellent. We are over 300 (people) which is what we gauge for every year,” said Rose Winters, president of the auxiliary. “This is the best turnout we’ve had for a while.

“I think we’ll do well (with fundraising efforts),” she added. “We always gauge for about 300 people, but we’re over that number now.”

In addition to the beef on a bun, guests also enjoyed a bake table, book sale and items for sale from the Innisfail Hospital Gift Shop.

“It’s all just been wonderful,” said Winters, noting the help they received this year. “We’ve had so many people volunteer to help, too, which we really needed. The volunteers this year have been wonderful.”

Tamara Nagy of Innisfail was one of those volunteers helping out.

“It’s very nice. It’s a very good fundraiser,” said Nagy, noting it was her first time attending the event. “It’s for a great cause.”

Innisfail mayor Jim Romane also joined fellow Innisfail residents for beef on a bun.

“It’s a great opportunity for the community to support the hospital auxiliary and their cause,” said Romane. “It’s a good turnout too.”

Winters said every fall they receive a list of needed items for patients at the local hospital.

This year money raised will go toward purchasing a cart with toiletries and necessities for patients and possibly family members who need to stay with patients.

“(The hospital is) looking at a special cart with bags filled with needed items, particularly for people that come in suddenly and don’t have their toothbrush and other stuff with them,” said Winters.
