INNISFAIL - Red Deer-Mountain View Member of Parliament Earl Dreeshen says he hopes the unrest that hit Washington, D.C., on Wednesday will be quickly and peacefully resolved.

Rioters occupied government buildings, forcing legislators to suspend government business and in some cases shelter in place on Jan. 6.

Dreeshen says it is certainly in Canada’s best interest to have the U.S. Congress and Senate operating freely.

“We’ve been such great partners and have worked well with the U.S. for many years,” said Dreeshen, whose riding includes all the towns in the Mountain View County geographical area, the county as well as parts of Red Deer County.

“Working with the Americans has always been important for us and them.”

President-elect Joe Biden is scheduled to be sworn in on Jan. 20.

“Hopefully there is a peaceful transition for the new administration,” he said. “I think they need to go through a healing process.”
