After working together on a drama and music project, local storyteller Mary Hays has joined forces with local group Voice Dance to release Come Away…, a CD of songs, music and stories.

“The focus of the CD is framed with family stories about my family coming to Alberta in 1910,” said Hays.

“It leads into Celtic stories and songs.”

Voice Dance members Kate Chapman, Anja Hamel and Lorrie Lipski play the harp, tin whistle, bodhran, recorder and guitar on the album.

“They are fabulous. Plus they are wonderful singers,” said Hays.

“We just have really achieved a really lovely weaving of the personal and family stories with the Celtic stories and the Celtic music.”

The album was recorded in Olds by Jim Schramm.

To launch the CD, Hays and Voice Dance will present a concert at the TransCanada Theatre on Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m.

“The TransCanada Theatre is a great venue. We are really excited about being able to use it,” said Hays.

Spectators should expect a mix of storytelling, family stories, folk tales and music.

“We will not be doing everything from the CD at the concert because we would like people to buy the CD to listen to our special presentations on the CD,” said Hays.

Tickets are on sale at Different Strokes Art Gallery. For more information, please contact Mary Hays at 403-556-2818.
