Mountain View Colts oust Three Hills, now face Airdrie in playoffs

Didsbury-based Heritage Junior B Hockey League team takes on Airdrie in second round of playoffs

DIDSBURY - The Mountain View Colts have swept the Three Hills Thrashers in the opening round of the Heritage Junior B Hockey League northern division playoffs and now face off against the Airdrie Techmation Thunder in a seven-game series that opens Tuesday in Airdrie.

Game 2 takes place at the Didsbury Memorial Complex on Wednesday starting at 8 p.m.

In eight regular season games against Airdrie, the Colts won three and lost five.

The Colts defeated the Thrashers 5-1 in Three Hills on Saturday to win the best-of-three series 2-0 following a 5-2 home win in game one in Didsbury on Feb. 15.

On Saturday, Feb. 18, the Colts got goals from Jordan Saunders (assists Trey Stovin and Logan Richards), Stovin (assists from Corson Waiting and Hayden Sotheran), captain Paton Rothenbusch (assists Steven Ball and Waiting), Haiden Parks (assists Saunders and Bell) and from Bell (assist Parks).

Colts netminder Chance Griffith got the win on Saturday, stopping 47 of 48 shots. He also won in Game 1.

Colts heads coach Dan Visser says his team is well prepared and excited to be taking on Airdrie in the second round.

“We are ready,” said Visser. “The power play is rolling. Working hard and winning the individual battles will be the keys to our success.”

Game 3 is scheduled for Feb. 24 in Airdrie, Game 4 in Didsbury on Feb. 25, Game 5 if necessary in Airdrie on Feb. 26, Game 6 if necessary in Didsbury on March 1, and Game 7 if necessary in Airdrie on March 3.
