Mountain View Colts Game 5 of best-of-seven series tonight

Didsbury-based team ties semifinal playoff series with Airdrie at two wins apiece

DIDSBURY - The Mountain View Colts beat the Airdrie Techmation Thunder in overtime on Saturday to even up the teams’ semifinal playoff series at two wins apiece.

Playing in front a large crowd in the Didsbury Memorial Complex, the Colts got goals from Jay Heistad (assists Trey Stovin and Logan Richards) in the first, Steven Bell (assist Jordan Saunders and captain Paton Rothenbusch) and Stovin (assists Saunders and Rothenbusch) in the third.

Hayden Sotheran scored at 13:12 of overtime to give the Colts the 4-3 win. Corson Waiting got the assist on the winning goal.

Colts netminder Chance Griffith got the win, stopping 49 of 52 shots.

"The boys struck with it and never gave up," head coach Dan Visser told the Albertan. "There was no quit and lots of determination."

Saturday’s win came one day after the Colts fell 8-1 in Game 3 in Airdrie. Saunders got the lone Colts goal in that game, with Carter Layden getting the assist.

Game 5 of the best-of-seven series goes Tuesday in Airdrie’s Ron Ebbesen Arena starting at 8:30 p.m., and Game 6 in Didsbury on Wednesday starting at 7:30 p.m. If necessary, Game 7 goes Friday in Airdrie.
