MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - A 72-year-old former Didsbury school teacher charged last month with allegedly sexually assaulting an elementary school student in 2015 has died, sources say.

Harley Arthur Dickinson, a Mountain View County resident, also faced charges of sexual interference and sexual exploitation. The accused was working as a teacher in Didsbury at the time of the alleged offences.

The police investigation into the alleged offences began Dec. 22, 2021 when police received a report of a sexual assault dating back to 2015.

Dickinson was scheduled to appear in Didsbury provincial court on April 11.

Didsbury High School principal Garth Dagg told the Albertan Friday that staff were informed of Dickinson's death Thursday after the school received notification from Chinook's Edge School Division head office.
