DIDSBURY - Town council has given official recognition to two local Good Samaritans for their efforts to keep a town park clean.

Residents Doug Howse and Tan Shu Jie have been instrumental in keeping Memorial Park clear of dog droppings, council heard.

In a briefing note to council, administration said, “This past winter they discovered Memorial Park and now are frequent users of the park, often two times a day. Of note, there is currently a #pickupyourdogpoop trending about the park.

“They have led the way in setting an impressive example in picking up after those who are not clearing up after their dogs. Council may wish to consider them for their help in cleaning up the park and setting a shining example of community spirit, investment and volunteerism.”

Under recognition Policy Coun-002-21 council can issue official recognition for community volunteerism. Council passed a motion to that effect recognizing Doug Howse and Tan Shu Jie.

Council also officially recognized local musician Shirley Thompson for her volunteerism over the past 40 plus years.

She was recently officially recognized by Alberta Health Services for her countless performances in local seniors lodges, nursing homes and elsewhere in the community and province.
