CREMONA – Three Red Deer-area men have been charged following the Jan. 16 robbery of a Cremona motel.

Matthew Douglas Bauer, 34, Jarad Corey Matheson, 27, and Harvey James Lee-Bernick, 35, have all been charged with robbery with a firearm and disguise with intent.

They are scheduled to be in court on Jan. 27.

Two masked men armed with a long barrel firearm entered a motel in the village on Jan. 16 and demanded cash from an employee, says Didsbury RCMP Staff Sgt. Chad Fournier.

The suspects were unsuccessful in obtaining any cash and fled the scene in a black Hyundai Elantra driven by a third male, he said.

Police received a report from a resident a short time later that a small black car had gone off the road east of Cremona near Rge. Rd. 34.

Police attended the scene and found the vehicle, which they confirmed was the same one used in the robbery, he said.

It was determined that the three males had been driven by another resident to the McDonald's restaurant in Olds.

Officers from the Didsbury and Olds RCMP detachments, assisted by the RCMP Red Deer police dog section and the RCMP auto theft south unit, attended the restaurant and arrested the three suspects without incident, he said.

The suspects were in custody Jan. 17 awaiting bail hearings and charges related to the Cremona armed robbery, he said.

Police are asking anyone with information about the robbery to contact them at 403-335-3381 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
