New CAO coming to Village of Cremona

Outgoing chief administrative officer resigning to pursue private sector opportunities

CREMONA — The village will have a new chief administrative officer (CAO) starting next month after outgoing CAO Aaron Gertzen resigned to pursue opportunities in the private sector.

Mayor Tim Hagen says the municipality is currently working on finalizing a contract with a new CAO.

Gertzen has been with the municipality for 18 months and will be officially on the job until March.

“The hiring committee is working on hammering out final details of the new person (CAO),” said Gertzen. “Once we have those details, we will be able to share them with the public.”

The CAO oversees all staffing and operations of the municipality.

Meanwhile, during the Feb. 15 council meeting, Gertzen updated council about several municipal activities.

Construction on the new skatepark is set to begin in June, weather permitting, he said.

Negotiated fee rebate and monthly reduction with TELUS resulted in $6,000 credit and reduction of $200 a month in phone charges for the municipality, he said.

The nature park skating rink is being routinely monitored by public works for safety, he said.

Council decided to defer third reading on the municipality’s updated code of conduct policy until the new CAO is in place, he said.
