CREMONA - Cremona and Sundre firefighter responded to a fire at an oilfield compressor station in the Burnt Timber area northwest of the village on the evening of Sunday, July 4.

Cremona & District Emergency Services Chief Kevin Miller says firefighters worked with the operator to extinguish the fire in and around a storage tank at the site.

“All of the contents (of the tank) spilled out on fire and filled the ditches with fire. Initially it was dispatched as a grass fire,” said Miller.

There were no injuries in the incident, he said.

Nine Cremona and six Sundre firefighters responded to the incident. They remained at the scene for several hours.

A number of residents in the area left their homes for safety reasons during the incident.

Those residents were advised by social media some hours later that it was safe to return to their homes.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Clearwater County,  he said.
