CREMONA - Cremona School hosted the provincial ACAA 1A Girls Basketball Championships recently with the Parkland Penguins winning gold.

Cremona hosted the 10-team tournament March 17-19.

Other teams in the tourney were the Parkland Penguins (PICS), Stirling Lakers, Bawlf Wildcats, Acme Reds, New Norway Spartans, St. Thomas More Kodiaks, St. Michael’s Dragons and Breton Cougars.

Cremona defeated Ecole Mallaig 58-35, fell to the PICS 63-20, and lost to St. Michael’s 54-44.

The PICS won the gold final 74-72 against the Lakers.

More than a dozen local and area businesses, families and others provided sponsorship support for the tournament, with many local and outside visitors watching the games in the Cremona School gymnasium.
