CREMONA - Village residents will go to the polls June 15 to replace former Cremona councillor Bonnie Scribner, who officially resigned her position on council on March 15 due to family reasons.

Under the Municipal Government Act a byelection to fill the council seat must be held within 120 days of the official resignation, meaning on or before July 8.

Council approved the byelection vote date at the recent regularly scheduled council meeting.

Nominations are now being accepted. All nominations must close four weeks prior to the byelection date, at noon on May 18.

The byelection vote itself will take place between 7:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the Cremona Royal Canadian Legion hall.

Chris Atchison, director of legislative, community and agricultural services, with Mountain View County has been named returning officer.

Mayor Tim Hagen says he has not yet heard of a candidates’ forum being organized.
