Update: Fatal motor vehicle collision with a pedestrian on Queen Elizabeth II Highway near Carstairs

CARSTAIRS -  Didsbury and Airdrie RCMP are continuing to investigate a fatal motor vehicle collision with a pedestrian on the Queen Elizabeth II Highway (QEII) north of the Carstairs overpass at Highway 581.

According to a press release issued by RCMP at 8:46 a.m. this morning, police were redirecting southbound traffic on the QEII.

"Police anticipate remaining on scene for some time while officers investigate the collision," the Nov. 12 press release stated.

In an update issued by RCMP at 10:46 a.m., police said Didsbury RCMP received a report of a collision between a pedestrian and a motor vehicle in the southbound lanes of the QEII Highway north of Highway 581.

“Upon arrival, emergency crews located a deceased male who had been hit by a vehicle that remained on scene,” the press release stated.

RCMP identified the deceased as a 25-year-old Red Deer resident.

Officers remained on scene while a traffic analyst attended to assist with the investigation.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. regular traffic flow resumed.

RCMP are still investigating the circumstances of the collision.
