CARSTAIRS — Town council has approved a number of updates to the municipality’s personnel policy.

The move came by way of motion at the recent regularly scheduled council meeting, held by teleconference.

According to the policy statement, the manual is prepared to “provide a uniform, fair and effective system of personnel administration of the Town of Carstairs and to provide a mutual understanding between employees, directors and supervisors within policy guidelines approved by town council.”

The policy is periodically reviewed and revised as necessary.

One of the policy’s objectives is to “ensure the procedures are fair to both employers and employee and that adequate protection is provided for the interest of both parties.”

One of the changes approved is in the Hours of Employment Section, part-time employees subsection 3.22.4 now reads: “The normal hours for part-time employees shall be minimum of 24 hours per week to a maximum of 40 hours per week. Days shall consist of Monday through Friday.”

Another change under the Pay Plan and Fringe Benefits Section, wellness plan subsection 4.9 reads: “All permanent employees can partake in the Health and Wellness program but must maintain a minimum of five sick days in order to submit a claim.

“All full-time employees are entitled to use up to $1,000 per year and a permanent part time will be equal to their part time equivalent. All amounts paid are a taxable benefit.”

The complete policy is available for viewing on the town’s website.
