CARSTAIRS - Council has approved a $3,000 contribution to the upcoming Carstairs Heritage Festival and Parade of Kilts.

Festival officials appeared before council on May 8 to request the funding.

“Our foundation worked very heard to raise funds to put on this event in 2023,” said Sharon Lampitt and Pam Montgomery. “We appreciate all the support from the Town of Carstairs, and request $3,000 to meet out costs.”

The town’s contribution will be used to support four bands in the parade, says the town's chief administrative officer Rick Blair.

Taking place June 4, the 2023 festival and parade will feature eight or maybe nine pipe bands.

“Our parade, concert and massed bands are expanding and bringing lots of tourists to our beautiful town. We are very happy that we are able to provide a free festival for the citizens of Carstairs and look forward to the excitement the festival will generate.”

The festival runs from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the parade starting at 11 a.m.

This year’s festival includes pipe band concert, Highland dancing, petting zoo, face painting, circus workshop, heavy athletics competition, tug o’war competition, kid zone, vendor market, Scottish clan booths, and the massed band finale.
