CARSTAIRS - Town council has come out in support of a grant application being made by the Carstairs and Community Half Century Association.

The move came by way of motion at the recent regularly scheduled council meeting.

The association is applying for a federal New Horizons grant up to a maximum of $25,000.

President Donna Maxwell says the funds would be used for several things.

“The majority of funds would be for major project in the kitchen, replacing the entire countertop which is cracking and lifting in spots, replacing sinks and taps, replacing the dishwasher, and purchasing two stainless steel servicing carts, ” Maxwell said in a letter to council.

“We would also replace the water heater and do  a few other minor upgrades to the hall.”

The association is in the process of obtaining updated quotes for the work required and expects that they will have increased somewhat from last year's, she said.

Located at 11349 Osler Street, the association hall will be resuming a number of activities in September 2021, including jam sessions, cribbage, quilting and out-of-town trips, accordion to the town’s website.
