CARSTAIRS - A steady stream of kids and their parents came out to enjoy the first-ever Scarecrow Trail event at the Carstairs Nature Space on the town’s southside on Sept. 25.

Sponsored by the Carstairs and District Agricultural Society, the all-ages event saw 30 scarecrows set throughout the 19-acre nature space by businesses, community organization and local families.

The six-hour event included a scavenger hunt for the kids, with about 170 goody bags handed out to the youngsters.

“Needless to say attendance was great,” said co-organizer Jamie Casebeer

The event also included a pumpkin rolling track set up to roll pumpkins down the toboggan hill.

“That resulted in lots of screams and cheers as the pumpkins bounced down the hill in a variety of directions,” she said.

Some of the local businesses donated to the goody bags and set up tents as well, she said.

The Farm Table was on hand to sell coffee and goodies all day.

“It was nice to see the local businesses support this fall social event,” she said, noting the Carstairs Nature Space committee and town employees were also on hand to help with all the fun.

“Feedback since the event has been fantastic,” she said.
