CARSTAIRS -  Town council has agreed to support a grant application being made by the Carstairs and Community Half Century Association.

The association plans to make an application for $22,000 from the federal New Horizons grant program.

“The majority of those funds would be for fairly major projects in the kitchen such as replacing the entire kitchen countertop, which is cracking and lifting in spots, replacing sinks and taps, replacing the dishwasher, and purchasing two stainless steel serving carts,” said association president Donna Maxwell.

“As well, we would replace the water heater and do a few minor upgrades elsewhere in the hall.

The grant program has been re-instituted for 2021 and will now consider applications for facility improvements, members heard.

During its Oct. 13 regular meeting, council instructed administration to prepare and send a letter in support of the grant application.
