Carstairs building permit values up in 2020

CARSTAIRS - Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the total value of building permits issued for projects in town was actually higher in 2020 than in 2019.

The largest gain in value was in the industrial and commercial sector.

According to statistics release by the municipality, a total of 106 permits were issued for projects worth a total of $13,414,667 in 2020.

That compares with 112 permits issued for projects totalling $11,973,910 in 2019.

Twenty five permits were issued for single family dwelling projects totalling $6,354,960 in 2020, compared to 31 permits valued at $7,941,160 in 2019.

There were eight multi-family permits valued at $1,599,000 in 2019, and none issued in 2020.

There were 41 addition and renovation permits issued valued at $905,000 in 2020. That compares with 36 permits issued valued at $1,114,500 in 2019.

Twenty four permits valued at $111,600 were issued for decks and ramps, compared to nine permits valued at $72,550 in 2019.

Eight industrial and commercial permits valued at $5,951,307 were issued in 2020, compared with 12 permits valued at $1,105,500 in 2019.

A total of four residential garage permits were issued last year totalling $82,000, compared with five permits issued valued at $120,200 in 2019.

Four permits valued at $9,800 were issued for other projects such a solar panel installation, driveway pads, completion of occupancy, demolition and wood stoves in 2020. That compares with five permits valued at $21,000 issued in 2019.
