BOWDEN — The Olds RCMP detachment is now advising the public that Highway 587 between Range Road 11 and Range Road 12 is now passable in both directions.

RCMP issued an update at 3:54 today.

The highway was temporarily closed following a two-vehicle collision that involved a STARS airlift.

Earlier today, on Tuesday, July 26, just after 12 p.m., the Olds RCMP, assisted by emergency services, responded to the crash on Highway 587 and Rge. Rd. 12 near Bowden.

“The driver and lone occupant of a passenger vehicle was airlifted by STARS to an area hospital in critical condition,” reads a portion of the press statement issued just before 2 p.m.

“The driver and lone occupant of a second passenger vehicle was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital with minor injuries,” police reported, adding that no additional “details are known at this time.”

The stretch of road on Highway 587 between Rge. Rd. 11 and Rge. Rd. 12 remained impassable while the RCMP collision reconstructionist helps Olds RCMP conduct the investigation, police said, urging motorists to for the time being find an alternate route.
