ST. ALBERT, Alta — A traffic stop by RCMP after a vehicle ran a red light has led to meth trafficking charges for two St. Albert women.
On May 17, Amy Actimichuk, 37, of St. Albert, and Cheyenne Smith, 26, of St. Albert, were arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking after running a red light and nearly colliding with an off-duty officer, RCMP said in a statement released today.
On May 17 at about 8:10 p.m. an off-duty officer was nearly struck by a grey 2003 Audi A4 after it ran a red light on Ray Gibbon Drive, according to the statement from RCMP.
An on-duty member spotted the vehicle traveling northbound on North Ridge Drive. The officer followed the vehicle, activated their emergency equipment, and attempted to stop the vehicle, said St. Albert RCMP.
The vehicle turned onto Natalia Way and then onto Nemo Terrace. The Audi then pulled into the driveway of a residence.
Police blocked the Audi from behind and instructed the occupants to exit.
The driver, Actimichuk, was arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking — methamphetamine; possession of property obtained by crime; flight from police; three counts of operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited; and seven counts of failure to comply with release order conditions.
Smith, the passenger of the Audi, was arrested for outstanding warrants and was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking — methamphetamine, and failure to comply with release order conditions.
Both Actimichuk and Smith are set to appear in St. Albert Provincial Court on June 20.
