New name improves flexibility

Changing the name of the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties (AAMDC) to Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) will help better reflect the organization’s mission and goals, says Al Kemmere.

Changing the name of the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties (AAMDC) to Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) will help better reflect the organization’s mission and goals, says Al Kemmere.

A Mountain View County councillor and the president of RMA, Kemmere said the new brand “makes it easier for people to comprehend who we are and what we represent. It also gives us greater flexibility to market ourselves to a wide audience, to grow our advocacy and expand our business for the benefit of all members.”

The RMA represents 69 rural municipalities, including Mountain View County. It advocates for its members with the provincial government and other stakeholders.

The name change and re-branding was announced last week.

The RMA recognizes the importance of having an identity that resonates with members and partners, and unifies all divisions of the organization, he said.

“We went through a process of the last 16 months or so to try and identify exactly what we are and who we are,” he told the Gazette. “We went through a name change and a re-branding to try to make us current to what we are today.”

The name change will not alter the governance of the organization at this time, he said.

Kemmere is serving his second term as president of the AAMDC and now the RMA.
