Speaking at EPS headquarters, Chief Dale McFee has confirmed two officers were shot and killed while responding to a domestic dispute call early this morning near 114 Avenue and 132 Street in Edmonton.

The suspect has also been found deceased, McFee said, from what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot.

“Today the Edmonton Police Service has been marked by a really unthinkable and horrific tragedy as two of our members have died in the line of duty,” McFee said during the press conference.

The officers were Const. Travis Jordan, 35, who had served with EPS for 8.5 years; and Const. Brett Ryan, 30, who had served with EPS for 5.5 years.

McFee said that at approximately 12:47 a.m. on March 16, Jordan and Ryan responded to a domestic dispute call at an apartment building near 114 Avenue and 132 Street.

“Upon arrival, the two patrol members went inside the building, approached the suite and were shot by a male subject,” McFee said. “At this time all indications are they did not have a chance to discharge their firearms.”

“A female complainant related to the subject was also taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries where she remains in serious but stable condition.”

“We are maintaining our investigation at the scene of this incident and are able to provide only preliminary details,” McFee said.

“There are multiple investigative lines we have to pursue in order to conclude this matter."

“We ask for your patience and understanding for our members in the multiple families impacted by today's incidents.”
