SUNDRE – The Town of Sundre's municipal council is supporting a campaign to raise awareness about epilepsy by proclaiming March 26 to be Purple Day.
The move came by way of motion during a recent regular council meeting.
Reading from background information contained in the meeting’s agenda, Linda Nelson, chief administrative officer, told council, “Epilepsy is a neurological disorder characterized by recurring seizures that can significantly impact an individual’s physical, psychological, and social well-being.”
There are approximately one in 100 Albertans who live with the condition, which can affect anyone of all ages, council heard.
“By learning about epilepsy, people can assist someone with epilepsy and offer seizure first aid and support,” said Nelson.
Council unanimously carried a motion to proclaim March 26 at Purple Day.
