SUNDRE — Last Saturday marked the official start to the local library's summer programming.

About 150 people dropped by on June 11 at the Sundre Community Centre, where the Sundre Municipal Library was hosting its Summer Kick Off Party from 1-3 p.m.

Although a storm that quickly rolled through the area just before the event started prompted organizers to relocate most of the activities into the centre’s gymnasium from the parking lot, the clouds before long parted and paved the way for clear blue, sunny skies.

Several members of the local RCMP and the Sundre Fire Department also attended, while the Sundre Hospital Futures Committee brought out its party barbecue wagon to cook up some hot dogs.

Other local organizations that teamed up for summer kick off were the Sundre Daycare Centre, The Den - Sundre Youth Centre, Mountain View Family Resource Network, the Sundre & District Historical Society, Greenwood Neighbourhood Place, Mountain View Communities Adult Learning Society, and InterVarsity Pioneer Camp Alberta.

Several members of the local RCMP and the Sundre Fire Department also attended, with emergency vehicles including a firetruck and police cruiser on display for children to check out and even try the sirens and blast air horns.
