SUNDRE – The local curling club’s first bonspiel of the 2023-24 season drew a full slate of rinks from the region.

The Sundre Curling Club’s four sheets were loaded up with 16 teams, with games starting on Tuesday, Dec. 5 and finals wrapping up on Friday, Dec. 8.

Players hailed from Cremona, Olds, as well as Sundre and area, with enough spectators packing the lounge room during the finals that organizers sold out a roll of 50-50 tickets.

A Sundre rink skipped by Lila Weiss swept their way to win first place in the A event, while the B event was claimed by a team from Olds skipped by Lorn Anderson. Taking the title in the C event was another rink from Sundre that was skipped by Ed Wicks.

The next big event lined up at the Sundre Curling Club is a provincial south qualifier the local rink will be hosting Feb. 1-4.
