SUNDRE — No one was badly hurt when a fire broke out early this morning in single family dwelling east of town on a rural property.
However, some pets had not yet been found when the Sundre Fire Department’s chief answered some questions about the blaze.
“A couple of cats are unaccounted for,” said Ross Clews, who was still on the scene with his crew cleaning up hotspots on Tuesday, Aug. 17.
Whether the frightened family felines fled the fire or were perhaps trapped in the home was not yet certain, said Clews.
“We don’t know,” he said.
But none of the residents were injured, he added.
The local department received assistance from Olds and Cremona fire crews, who were out since about 4 a.m. to help bring the blaze under control, he said.
When the fire chief responded to a call from The Albertan just after 9 a.m., he said firefighters remained in “overhaul” mode, meaning the crews were still actively snuffing out hotspots.
