Combined efforts of local students raise almost $3,500

The Sundre Learning Campuses recently teamed up to raise money for kids in Fort McMurray.

The Sundre High School Students' Union, Leo club and leadership class as well as students from River Valley School raised a combined total of about $3,475.

“That is a great contribution from our community, even better after it gets doubled and doubled,” said Scott Saunders, principal of Sundre High School and the Sundre Learning Centre, referring to the provincial and federal governments' pledges to match donations.

“We will donate the funds to the Red Cross with direction to utilize the money to support children as they return to the city,” said Ryan Beck, teacher and Leo Club advisor.

Students wanted to get involved and help those affected by the Fort McMurray wildfires any way they could, and so collaborated to come up with the plan to organize the coin drive.
