SUNDRE — The roof over the portion of the Sundre Arena structure that houses the ice plant was removed a few weeks ago, paving the way for needed upgrades.

The effort to heighten the walls to be in compliance with updated codes as well as to accommodate the new unit began on Tuesday, Sept. 8, when a crew with Supreme Renovations and Finishing Ltd. got to work.

The project has been included in the municipality's capital plan, and a building envelope study is also being conducted to determine to structure's future longevity.

Although a pandemic protocol reopening plan for the public was as of earlier this month still being developed, the municipality anticipates that people will be able to use the arena starting some time in November.
