Letter: Sell Olds waste site for operation centre funds

Rumour has it that the town is planning a new maintenance and parks building near that old waste site four to five kilometres northwest of downtown.

Considering our current economic state, what is the immediate need for spending $10 million? Accepting that our current maintenance and parks site could use some upgrading but $10 million today?

It seems apparent that many of our businesses are struggling due to the COVID-19 virus and disasterous oil prices (ie. Parkland Pipeline shutting down).

These effects could very well affect our town tax base.

With regard to that northwest waste site, why don’t we sell it for a very minimum fee and let a developer spend his funds upgrading.

After a year or two the town would receive additional tax income which would then aid in a significant parks and maintenance centre.

Mayor Mike, would you give us a comment please?

Keith Baxter,

Olds
