Pool open again

It didn't take long for the Olds Aquatic Centre to reopen after a mechanical problem forced its closure Saturday.

The facility was closed Saturday afternoon after a pump that circulates water to prevent stagnation in the big pool failed.

“It just disintegrated,” Olds chief operating officer Doug Wagstaff says.

Town officials contacted a company that supplies the pumps. They brought in and installed a new one. As a result, the centre was reopened Sunday, for regular hours.

Wagstaff says workers are now examining the pump that circulates water in the smaller pool and hot tub, just to be sure it's operating normally.

He says the total cost to replace the pump is about $3,000 and that's covered in the aquatic centre's budget.
