Olds man charged with robbing Calgary banks

An Olds man has been charged with robbing three Calgary banks within the last two months.

Stephen Thomas Fortune, 54, has been charged with seven offences, including robbery, possession of a weapon and using a disguise to commit an indictable offence. Fortune is accused of robbing the First Calgary Financial bank branch in the 2500 block of Southland Drive SW, the Scotiabank on 33 Avenue SW and the TD Canada Trust on Brentwood Road NW. The heists took place on July 25, June 1 and July 13 respectively.

During the most recent heist, the Calgary Police Service say a man walked into the branch at about noon. Once inside, he approached a bank teller, showed her a firearm and then handed her a robbery note. The man was given an undisclosed amount of cash and left the bank immediately.
