Here's one of the concerns raised in the news in Olds 100 years ago in the Olds Gazette:
"Again it becomes necessary to call attention to the uselessness of the town pump, which, at the present time, cannot even wheeze.
There must be some style of pump or some means whereby the one installed in the town well on R'y Ave. west can be kept in condition in cold weather.
A few pails of water from this same well might save a good many dollars' worth of property."
