MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY — The suspect charged by RCMP with second degree murder in connection with the homicide of Brenda Ware is to appear in court next week.

According to a media inquiry submitted by email to the Alberta Court Checks service, Philip Toner, 41, is scheduled to speak on Monday, May 31 to the Didsbury provincial court over the criminal charge.

The accused was initially sought by police as a person of interest after Ware’s body was discovered earlier this month in B.C.’s Kootenay National Park some 54 kilometres northeast of Radium along Highway 93.

After being located, he was subsequently criminally charged and transported back to Alberta, where investigators believe the homicide occurred.

“As the matter has now entered into the judicial process, the RCMP will not be releasing any more information, in an effort to protect all future court proceedings,” Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, B.C. RCMP media relations officer, said by email in response to follow-up questions.
