MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Council has approved an overnight camping development permit allowing 40 units at an existing events centre north of Didsbury.
The move came by way of motion at the recent regularly scheduled council meeting, held in person and on Zoom.
The proposal is to provide an addition amenity to the previously approved development permit for James and Rhonalyn Carpenter's Cork and Crate Farms, which was issued for an event facility, accessory building - tent and parking facility in December 2021.
The 12.46 acre parcel involved is located about one kilometre north of Twp. Rd. 320 (Bergen Road) on the east side of Rge. Rd. 21, at NW 1-32-2-5.
“The 40 sites will be unserviced and all recreational vehicle types including tents will be allowed,” said Jeff Holmes, Mountain View County's chief administrative officer. “The overnight camping is in conjunction with events hosted in the event facility, for up to two nights.
“The camping area will be located south of the events centre, utilizing the southerly entrance into the property. Although the camping area is located further south and east compared with the concept plan that is schedule C of the direct control district, the location takes into account the approved location of the event facility and existing landscaping on the site.”
The approval comes with a number of conditions, including “Overnight camping with a maximum of two nights use will be permitted year round in conjunction with events scheduled on the subject property, and the operation of campgrounds shall be conducted in a fashion which protects public health and safety, minimizes fire hazards, does not create a nuisance to adjacent areas and will not contaminate ground or surface water off-site.”
As well, all parking shall be “contained within a specified area, as indicated within the applicant’s site plan. No parking of vehicles shall be permitted on any county road allowances at any time.”
No comments from nearby property owners were received as part of the circulation process, council heard.
County council made the decision on the development permit application as the property involved is zoned direct control district.
