BIG CANADA DAY BIRTHDAY BASH IN SUNDRE — The Sundre & District Museum and its historic pioneer village grounds were packed on Canada Day as people came out in substantial numbers to celebrate the nation's birthday. The community event was hosted in partnership between the municipality and the Sundre & District Historic Society, and included activities such as a car show, outdoor music by Tim Hus, a free barbecue hosted by town council as well as family events like bag races. Members of the David Bearspaw family from Stoney Nakoda had come out to Sundre prior to Canada Day celebrations in town to set up a tipi at the grounds of the local museum. Sundre is situated on Treaty 6 and 7 territories, traditional meeting grounds and travelling routes to many First Nations and Métis people with a lengthy history in the region. SWEET CANADA DAY TUNES — About 800 people packed the Innisfail and District Historical Village on Canada Day morning for a Rotary Club of Innisfail hosted pancake breakfast. Citizens who stayed after breakfast had the chance to take in the sweet tunes from The Kure Family from Spruce View. CANADA DAY DANCE — Joy's School of Dance opened up the entertainment at Innisfail's main Canada Day celebration at the Innisfail Twin Arena; a venue hurriedly chosen by the Town of Innisfail when it was determined last week that the ground at Centennial Park was too damp from this season's constant rain. SPECTACULAR CANADA DAY FIREWORKS — Innisfail's sky was lit up with explosive brilliance late in the evening on June 30 for the annual fireworks display to kick off this year's Canada Day weekend. CANADA DAY IN CARSTAIRS — Carstairs youngsters show off their best Canada Day outfits during a bike rodeo in town on July 1. The event saw the kids learn all about bike safety, including the use of proper hand signals and the need to always wear a helmet when cycling, says instructor and town peace officer David Peters. From Sundre to Olds and Innisfail to Carstairs as well as plenty of other places in between, there were a variety of fun, family-friendly activities for all ages to enjoy.
