OLDS — The Shalin rink won the A event of the Olds Open Bonspiel, held March 22-24 at the Olds Curling Club.

The rink consisted of Gerry Schalin, Scott Medd, Sharon Medd and Cole Mueller, who served as the alternate for Brenda Schalin on Sunday.

The Thomson rink took the B event. Teammates on that rink were Jim Thomson, Len Scarrott, Gary Pion and Conrad Kohl.

The Leszynski rink won the C event. Members of that rink were – skip Casey Leszynski, Lorne Hersberger, Erin Feldkamp and Lisa Schrader.

Tammy Schwass of the club says 24 teams entered the bonspiel this year, on par with the figure in previous years.

"We did a beach theme, which was fitting, as a break from the snowy weather we had on the weekend," Tammy Schwass, who does communication for the Olds Curling club, wrote in an email. "Everyone seemed to really get into it, wearing flowery shirts, and some even wore shorts out on the ice."
