21-year-old woman dies in icy road crash near Carstairs

DIDSBURY  -  A 21-year-old woman died yesterday in a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 2A near Carstairs.

The woman, who has not been named, was the driver and lone occupant of a pickup truck that left the roadway near Township Road 304 north of Carstairs on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 8. Didsbury RCMP responded at 5:18 p.m.

She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“The investigation indicates that the pickup truck was northbound on Highway 2A,” said RCMP Cpl. Tammy Keibel. “When it attempted to overtake a second northbound vehicle, the pickup truck lost control and left the highway, rolling in the ditch.”

The two-lane highway was reported to be icy in the area and is believed to have been a contributing factor in the accident, she said.

An autopsy has been ordered by the office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Police say they will not release the name of the deceased and that no further updates are anticipated.
