The byelection was held to replace outgoing first-term councillor Terry Thompson.

Schmidt garnered 51 votes, with other candidates Derald Anderson garnering 15, Matthew Barnett garnering 14, and Cindy Sangster garnering 12.

Councillor Joseph Shi resigned in March, with Jody Shane Dick winning the subsequent byelection on June 12, defeating three other candidates.

Cremona chief administrative officer Karen O’Conner was the returning officer for the Feb. 6 byelection.
