CARSTAIRS - Local teams brought out the brooms both literally and figuratively as they won all four categories at the Carstairs Curling Club's men's bonspiel, held Jan. 29 - Feb. 1.

The Steven Lucas rink won the A final, beating the two-time defending champs the Daniel Bubola rink from Calgary.

"The Lucas rink were able to get an early lead in the game and were able to control it with great shot execution throughout the rest of the game," said bonspiel organizer Kerry Meyers. "They really played well all weekend. All events were won by local teams, which is very rare."

The event saw 16 teams competing, most of which were from Carstairs, with a few from Crossfield and Calgary, said Meyers.

Winning the B final was Meyers' own rink. Kirk Williscroft and his rink captured the C final, while the Doug Reid rink won the D final.
