Towns back project

More than 160 urban municipalities, including the towns of Didsbury and Carstairs, have come out in support of the proposed Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project.

In an open letter to the prime minister published on Thursday, municipal leaders said the project “is critical not only to the province and industry, but to municipalities that will benefit from the taxation and economic spinoff of this expansion.”

The project would triple the capacity of the pipeline, which runs from Edmonton to the B.C. coast.

“As municipal leaders, we know full well the impacts a project of this magnitude can have on our province and our communities. We offer our voices in support of the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project and in your government’s efforts to bring this project to fruition.”
