SADDLE LAKE - Police have laid a second degree murder charge after responding to a report of a serious assault at a residence in Saddle Lake Cree Nation on Nov. 30.
Saddle Lake RCMP were called to the residence at 4:05 a.m. When they arrived, police located the victim, 66-year-old Saddle Lake resident Roland Jackson, who was deceased, despite lifesaving efforts.
"Officers arrested a suspect at the scene and the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit was dispatched to take carriage of the investigation," according to information released on Dec. 1 by RCMP.
As a result of the investigation, RCMP have now charged Albert Paul Jackson, 39, a resident of Saddle Lake, with second degree murder.
Jackson was taken before a Justice of the Peace and has been remanded in custody with a court appearance set for Dec. 1, in St. Paul.
"As this matter is before the courts no further information will be released," according to RCMP.
