ROCKY VIEW COUNTY, Alta — Around 5 p.m. on July 10, Airdrie RCMP and Airdrie Fire Department members were called out to a fatal collision involving a pick-up truck and a hatchback car on Highway 567 near Range Road 284 in Rocky View County, northeast of Airdrie.

Airdrie RCMP is currently investigating the incident and is searching for witnesses or dash-camera footage of the incident.

In a press release, Airdrie RCMP stated that it is believed the adult male driver of the hatchback, heading east, attempted to pass the pickup truck, which was pulling a travel trailer and also heading east.

The hatchback struck the back of the trailer, causing the car to serve from the roadway and collide with a power pole in the north ditch. The power pole caught on fire, which spread to the hatchback and the car became fully engulfed in flames.

A youth passenger seated in the back of the hatchback succumbed to his injuries on the scene.

The identifications of those involved in the accident were not immediately revealed. Any other injuries fellow passengers sustained in the crash are unknown.

Witnesses are encouraged to contact Airdrie RCMP Detachment at 403-945-7200. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, online at www.P3Tips.com, or by using the “P3 Tips” app.

"Airdrie RCMP sends their condolences to all affected by this tragedy," the release stated.
